This will be the third edition of this popular half marathon that gives runners an unbeatable tour of the beautiful city of Lincoln. Covering a closed-road 13.1-mile course, and with superb spectator support along the way, the route passes through Lincoln’s historic Cathedral Quarter before dropping down to the vibrant Brayford Wharf area and then returning uphill to the Cathedral Quarter. Here, runners are rewarded with the magnificent sights of Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral – where The Da Vinci Code was filmed – before returning to cross the finish line at the Lincolnshire Showground.
It certainly makes for one of the most spectacular city half marathons in the UK, topped off with a first-class race village at the Lincolnshire Showground. For runners living locally and for those coming from further afield, it is the perfect race venue with plenty of space and on-site parking. Visitors can look forward to a fantastic atmosphere with live entertainment from DJs and bands as well as a range of delicious food and drink vendors to keep everyone fuelled throughout the day.
Those travelling to spend the weekend in Lincoln will find that the city has an enormous amount to offer as a half marathon location. From the quaint shops and cafes to the plentiful galleries or historic landmarks, it makes for a great-value weekend away in a stunning setting and an ideal opportunity to include friends and family in race plans.
In addition to the Lincoln Half Marathon, 2018 sees the first ever Lincoln Mini Marathon, an event based entirely within the safe surroundings of The Lincolnshire Showground for under 17’s. The Mini Marathon will take place on Sunday 30th September, starting shortly after the half marathon.
The second Lincoln Half Marathon Corporate Challenge takes place on the same day, giving local businesses the chance for a little friendly rivalry whilst getting fit, having fun team building and raising money for charity.
The 2018 Lincoln Half Marathon promises to be another professional and friendly race from seasoned event organisers OSB Events. Competitors can look forward to smooth organisation, an impressive medal and lots of cheering along the way from the crowds.
Race Director Iain Hamilton commented: “We are excited to launch the 2018 Lincoln Half Marathon and confirm that it will take place on Sunday 30th September. We are looking forward to including the first Lincoln Half Mini Marathon, which will be based at The Lincolnshire Showground during the Half Marathon. The 2017 event was a great success and we are building on this to deliver another first-class race in the beautiful city of Lincoln this autumn. With many runners now making their race plans for the year, we hope that many will sign up to run this brilliant half marathon in one of the UK’s most historic cities.”
Angela Andrews CPFA, Chief Executive and Town Clerk at City of Lincoln Council, said: “I am delighted that the Lincoln Half Marathon is returning to our city for 2018. It’s a fantastic event attracting runners of all levels from Lincolnshire and beyond, and the route takes in many of the city’s beautiful landmarks. I would like to encourage runners to get involved and make sure they are on the start line on 30th September.”
