Thousands of people pulled on their trainers today to make the second Asda Foundation Hull Running Festival a runway success.

Despite the warm, humid conditions, the streets were a riot of colour and supportive crowds helped to generate a fantastic atmosphere as they cheered and encouraged all those taking part in the festival, which featured the tenth running of the Hull 10K and the second Hull Half Marathon.

Both events also included the MKM Corporate Challenge, in which companies competed to be the fastest firm in the race. The results will be announced later.

Alfred Gelder Street was the starting point for both routes which took the runners past some of the city’s cultural and historic landmarks.

First across the finish line in the half marathon was Mohammad Aburezeq who romped to victory in a time of 1:08:42, Phil Dickens took second place in 1:13:01, with Jonathan Walton finishing third in 1:13:06.

Kirsty Longley was the first woman home in 1:19:34 followed by Charlene Jacobs-Conradie who clocked 1:21:27 for second spot and Dawn Godwin who took third in 1:26:18.

Baldvin Magnusson won the 10K in a time of 33 mins 40 secs. He was followed home by James Wignall who crossed the line second in 34 mins 5 secs with Ryan Morris taking third in 35 mins 44 secs.

First woman home was Samantha Iliffe who clocked 40 mins 22 secs. Helena Schofield finished second with 41 mins 3 secs and third spot went to Tegan Roberts in 42 mins 37 secs.
But the big winner on the day was charity as the festival is expected to raise tens of thousands of pounds for a host of good causes.

They included the event’s partner charities which this year were the Jane Tomlinson Appeal; Children’s Air Ambulance; Macmillan Cancer Support; Candlelighters; Hull and East Riding Breast Friends; Special Stars Foundation and Hull Homeless Community Project.

The festival is supported by Asda Foundation, Aftershokz, Arla Protein, Runderwear, Hull Daily Mail, MKM, Arco, Hull City Council, Motorpoint, High5, Erdinger, Bananakick, Viking FM and Yorkshire 4×4 Response.

Run For All would like to say a huge thank you to the people of Hull for their continued support over the past ten years. Each year, hundreds of volunteers have given up their time to line the streets, hand out water, assist in baggage, and pass runners their all-important medal. Without them, these events simply wouldn’t be possible.
Next year the Hull Running Festival is set to take place in April for the first time and entries are now open.
