Destination Basingstoke have nominated local adaptive athlete, Jamie Gane, for an iTAB Stars Award for ‘inspiring many’ with his grit and determination.

Jane Staff, Corporate Development Manager from Destination Basingstoke, comments: “It’s fantastic that Jamie has been awarded the prestigious iTAB Stars Award – I really can’t think of a worthier or more inspiring person.”

Jamie developed a chronic pain condition in childhood and hadn’t walked without pain for 14 years – until he made the decision to have a below-the-knee amputation. Innovative local company, Blatchford, provide Jamie with his prosthetic Blade XT, which aided Jamie, along with his steely determination, to complete the Destination Basingstoke Half Marathon 2019 in 02:39:57, whilst also helping his best friend to cross the finish line for her first ever Half Marathon.

Now a motivational speaker and professional athlete, Jamie is also ranked second in the World in Judo (adaptive category). He has completed over 70 Tough Mudder events – as well as the World’s Toughest Mudder – a 24-hour endurance race in the US. He also completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon.

Natalie Kenny from Blatchford, a Basingstoke Half sponsor, comments: “Jamie has been a Blatchford ambassador for just over 2 years, and it has been great to follow his journey from new amputee to adaptive athlete. But he didn’t stop there, he took it in his stride to see who else he could help and inspire. We are incredibly proud to work with Jamie, and to see him be presented with the iTAB Stars
Award today.”

iTAB Senior Account Manager, Kirsty Moulsley, says: “We have been following Jamie’s story on social media and have been totally inspired by all his running achievements. He is such a fantastic role model for young people, and we are delighted that he has been nominated for an iTAB Stars award by the team at Destination Basingstoke Half Marathon.”

iTAB are a global medal personalisation service, located on the Hampshire/Berkshire border. Destination Basingstoke Half Marathon have partnered with iTAB for the past five years to offer their runners the opportunity to personalise their finisher medal with their name and finish time.

The iTAB Stars Award was born after the company were totally amazed and inspired by the people and stories they witness daily, working with running events around the world. Whether it was the people who ran their hearts out for charity, those who inspired others to achieve their goals; to those heartwarming moments when one human being comes to the aid of another, to get them over the finish line.
Anyone can be nominated for an iTAB Stars award and it’s the perfect way to celebrate anyone achieving something special at an event.
