ASICS has shared the staggering results of the META : Time : Trials event on the 24th April 2022.

Eilish McColgan, GBR was the winner in the mixed 5km in a time of 14:45, a new British national record* and PB by three seconds, improving her own record set in February this year. In the total, five of the six race winners recorded PB’s on their way to victory, Mo Katir narrowly missed a Spanish record winning the men’s 5km in 13:20, with Mohamed Reda el Aaraby winning the men’s half marathon with a PB time of 59:54 and Yeshi Kalayu was the winner of the mixed half marathon race in 1:07:30.

Over 70 elite ASICS athletes took part in the World Athletics certified META : Time : Trials in the Spanish city of Málaga, selected for its run-friendly climate, flat terrain and low-pressure elevation. Inspired by the Tour de France time trials, runners were challenged to beat their Personal Best (PBs) over the 5km, 10km and half marathon race distances.

In total, an amazing 4 national records* and 27 PBs were recorded by athletes at the brand’s pinnacle event as 37% of them achieved their fastest ever time for the respective distances.

5k – Eilish McColgan, GBR (14:45, PB & NR)


Half Marathon – Mohamed Reda el Aaraby, MAR (59:54, PB)

10k – Tsegay Kidanu Reda, ETH (27:14, PB)

5k – Mohamed Katir, ESP (13:20, PB)

All PBs achieved were accomplished wearing the new METASPEED™+ shoes which were revealed to the public for the first time at the event. Building on the great success of the METASPEED™ series introduced in 2021, ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS) has utilized data accumulated through elite athletes in competitions to refine the product design and make runners even faster.

The METASPEED™ + series is available online and at selected retail partners from 14 June 2022.
