The Baxters River Ness 5K, open to all ages and running abilities, follows a flat, scenic route alongside the picturesque River Ness in Inverness to finish alongside other races at Bught Park.
Why not make a weekend of it and come with family or friends? There’s plenty to entertain runners and spectators over the weekend with a sports expo, runners’ cafe, street food, live music, pipes and drums and family friendly activities..
The Festival of Running also features the iconic award-winning Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, popular River Ness 10K and Wee Nessie kids’ race. Entry for all races open now.
Many runners and spectators, choose to stay longer – a huge attraction of the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running is the area’s natural beauty and wealth of attractions. The area is steeped in history, home to castles, misty mountains and, of course, the Loch Ness Monster. Activities in the Scottish Highlands range from challenging hill walks to kayaking, dolphin spotting boat trips to distillery visits.
With a choice of race distances and festival atmosphere, the Festival of Running has something for everyone.

The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon follows a spectacular point to point route alongside world famous Loch Ness and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful marathons in the world. The route begins in an atmospheric moorland setting and continues through stunning scenery along the shores of Loch Ness, across the River Ness to finish in the Highland capital of Inverness.

‘Beautiful scenery, fantastic atmosphere’, ‘friendliest race you’ll ever participate in’, ‘friendly, well organised beautiful scenery’, ‘best marathon in the UK by a country mile’, ‘a truly inspirational event’… are just some of the comments we had from runners in 2017 so why not come and experience it for yourself?
The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon follows a spectacular point to point route alongside the iconic Scottish loch and is quite possibly one of the most stunning marathon routes anywhere in the world. It is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere to runners of all abilities and unforgettable camaraderie.
If a full-scale marathon isn’t for you, why not enter the BaxtersRiver Ness 10K? This flat point-to-point course, with excellent ‘pb’ potential, winds through the historic Highland capital alongside the banks of the scenic River Ness. If you prefer a team approach to sport, then the 10K Corporate Challenge for teams of 4-6 employees is the ideal race for you.
