We are so excited to welcome you all to Virgin Sport Hackney and our first ever Festival of Fitness on Sunday 30th April!

It will be a momentum-fuelled day full of challenging fun. A day which brings communities together, and a chance for all the things we love about this wonderful borough to shine.

Virgin Sport, in partnership with Hackney Council, are on a mission to get more people moving. We want to help break down barriers to participation by providing a unique outdoor fitness-meets-festival experience. We have an amazing line-up to get everyone of all abilities moving and grooving – so round up friends & family and say yes to Hackney’s first ever Festival of Fitness! It’s going to be so much more than just a race to the finishing line.

The Festival village will open at 7am in advance of the legendary Hackney Half Marathon getting going at 9am, when runners will head out past roaring crowds and music at every turn. We’ll be sure to keep the atmosphere buzzing until group yoga brings the day to a close at 5.30pm.

In between there will be the Hackney 5.5K (1.30pm). We don’t believe in just investing to improve the long distance race this year. Making the short distance race the most amazing, unforgettable experience is just as important (if not more) to encourage more people to join in and challenge themselves. So the 5.5K will get the full big city race treatment, led by our world-class operations team and complete with water stations, closed roads, bands and entertainment, pacers, fantastic signage and decoration, a finisher’s medal and tee-shirt. We can’t wait!!

Beyond the races, all day there will be a full line-up of some of London’s best fitness instructors on the Go Fit Yourself stage providing high-intensity fitness classes, active stretching and yoga. All our fitness classes are FREE for anybody to join in, or you can pay to experience Front Row treatment!
And that’s not all. Come and take in our festival vibes with pop-up sports activities on the Marshes, roaming entertainment, live artwork installations, local bands and DJs; plus an amazing array of East London’s finest food & drink (with a licence this year to serve celebratory bubbles).

So, whether you are a bodybuilder or yogi, passing dogwalker or loyal supporter who has always needed something to do in the 2 hours while you wait for your runner to finish, make sure you check out the awesome line-up below and bring your friends along too! It is scientific fact* that we can plank 10x longer when surrounded by our friends!

*potential alternative fact, but undeniably true.

So, who’s in? As we like to say at Virgin, “Life is a helluva lot more fun when you say yes.”
