Kalenji Kiprun Trail Rain Jacket
Price £39.99 – £59.99 (Some in the sale)
Runners training or competing IN WET WEATHER.
The Kapteren Rain jacket is 100% waterproof thanks to its fabric, its taped seams and its waterproof zip. It is also very well ventilated thanks to openings on each side.
I was sent the Kiprun Rain Jacket from the guys at Decathlon UK to test across our traditional winter weather but struggled at first to give it a good test but the British weather didn’t let me down and in the last month I have been able to put it though it’s paces.
The jacket comes in a bright lime green (Trail) and also black (road) but both jackets have the same features. I have a large but it does come on the small size so it’s worth trying on or going a size bigger.
When it first arrived I was really impressed by the quality and look. It looks very stylish and feels and looks well made. The seams are all taped and boast lots of reflective detail to help with being seen at night. The hood is detachable (zip) and has a good 1 handed toggle system to adjust the brim. It has 2 internal pockets which will easily fit any of the phones on the market at the moment and as it is on the inside these are more waterproof than your normal external zipped ones.
To help with ventilation rear slits and 2 zipped vent slits on the front. These are finished in a red waterproof zip which gives the jacket a great look. It is light and packs small enough to put I a running backpack too.
I first used it supporting my son on a very wet and windy day at football training. I grabbed it rather than my usual coat to see how it faired. I was very impressed by its dryness and protection and was fully dry (on the top half at least!) after an hour in pouring rain.
I like the fact that the hood is detachable as good as unless it is really heavy I prefer to run without a hood. The cuffs are cut on an angle and have Velcro closures also which makes them less annoying. As mentioned earlier the cut is on the small size but this is better on long runs as it doesn’t feel bulk or flappy.
I found the jacket very warm and found that I had to wear less layers when wearing it to prevent overheating. The vents also helped with this and the design of the vents on the front made it was easy to regulate how warm I kept.
For the price I think this is a great jacket. I would only look to other, more expensive jackets if I was looking for a lighter rain jacket but I think the material and finish is of good quality and will last for several years of trail running!
If you are looking for a new rain jacket this is worth considering especially as the trail version is currently in the sale!
