Name: Matt Jones

Where are you from?

Swindon

Why did you start to run?

After signing up for the Berlin marathon out of the blue in 2013.
Years of being a asthmatic held me back from attempting running activity. After a few weeks of training I very quickly fell in love with it and I am no free from asthma.

What do you love most about running?

So much…
I love how runners are one big community and generally, very supportive.
I love how I have managed to see more of the world and even my own country through running.
And I love how, when in full training, I can eat all the cake and burgers…

How often do you run?

On a good week, 4 times a week. More recently once a week.

Do you have a favourite race you have ran?

Berlin (bit of a theme here) but this is the fittest I have been and really felt good in myself.
My first experience of the large crowds of a marathon and soaking in the whole day.
Crossing that line meant so much to me.
It would be great to get back to this level again.

Do you have a favourite medal?

Definitely my Berlin marathon medal

What’s the best piece of advice you have been given about running?

I’m struggling with this. I haven’t really had much in the way of advice.
Take toilet paper with you before the start of races and don’t be s*#t….

What running shoes do you wear?

Adidas boosts, Salomon speedcross 4’s and skechers ultras.

You are stuck on a desert island with 3 people, who are they?

I would love to have my grandparents who are no longer around. Even if we are rescued the day after, it would be amazing to spend one more day with them.

Favourite film and why?

Quite a tough question as I love film.
But any of the original Star Wars or most recent films.
The reason, because I can remember playing with a friends figures at a young age and falling in love with the franchise from then on.

Next up is Carl.

Name: Carl Dudley

Where are you from?

London

Why did you start to run?

I’d ran as a kid, doing any fun runs whenever my dad was doing a 10k, Half or Marathon, but still hated school cross-country – maybe it was the lack of bling.

I didn’t keep it up and as I was coming up to 30, I was desperately unfit, scales were nudging 30 stone and I needed to do something about it. My Dad was still running and encouraged me to get out run/walking – I joined a running group in a local town and before long I began to love it and now I couldn’t live without running.

What do you love most about running?

Bling, endless Jaffa Cakes, the people I get to meet and that I can go out for just an hour and completely lose myself – forget all stresses of work and life and just enjoy being outdoors. The community is pretty awesome too!

How often do you run?

3/4 times a week

Do you have a favourite race you have ran?

I kind of have two: London 10,000 – I’m constantly plugging this on Twitter. Until two weeks ago it was my 10k PB race, it’s extraordinarily well organised, brilliant route and the bling is something to behold and it was the first time I actually met anyone from ukrunchat!

2nd is Royal Parks Half, this was my first half and it would be my absolute favourite race if I hadn’t tanked it at 9mile and lost the ability to run.

Do you have a favourite medal?

2016 London 10,000

What’s the best piece of advice you have been given about running?

Whether it’s advice I don’t know but “Run as far as you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must – but finish the damned race”

What running shoes do you wear? Saucony ISO (Triumph and Hurricane)

You are stuck on a desert island with 3 people, who are they?

Ooooh, hmmmm…..

Bear Grylls – he’d be quite useful in this situation but he must have some awesome stories to tell.
@RunnersKnees – for his awesome pep talks when things get tough, he’s a decent laugh and bound to have brought cake as well.
Dave Cornthwaite (@davecorn) – adventurer buddy of mine, he’s an awesome guy and his adventures/travels are insane!

Favourite film and why?

Top Gun – I feel the need, the need for Speed!! I mean how could you not love it – aeroplanes, cheesy songs and the best taglines ever!
