Cheshire-based companies AfterShokz and Active Leisure Events come together in new race partnership
Leading sports headphone company AfterShokz, based in Winsford, Cheshire have signed terms on a new partnership with organisers of some of the UK’s best-loved races, including the North West’s biggest half marathon.
AfterShokz, one of the UK’s leading open ear sports headphone brands, is to partner with Active Leisure Events, the Chester-based organisers of a series of multi-award winning races in the North West including the Chester Half Marathon and MBNA Chester Marathon.
Following the agreement, AfterShokz Sport Headphones will become the official headphone partner for Active Leisure Events’ stable of award-winning races.
Preparations for the partnership are already underway for the first of those races, the MBNA Chester Marathon, which takes place on Sunday, 4th October.
Chris Hulse of Active Leisure Events said: “We are delighted to have signed this new agreement with AfterShokz and look forward to working alongside the team for the first time at the MBNA Chester Marathon in October.
“As runners ourselves, we appreciate that many people train or race with music, and many want to listen to it as they take part in our events. As conventional headphones are designed to block out ambient sounds, we’ve always encouraged people to be cautious using them when running outdoors. AfterShokz headphones are different in that their open ear design, which sits on the jaw bone, keep the ears free to hear ambient sounds which heightens awareness and fosters greater safety.”
AfterShokz are unique in that they sit in front of the ear and use bone conduction to deliver sound through the cheekbones to the runner’s inner ear. This means runners can enjoy their music and still hear everything around them such as race marshal instructions, emergency vehicles and fellow competitors.
AfterShokz President and CEO Bruce Borenstein said: “We’re thrilled to be on board as the official headphone partner of the Active Leisure Events race series and to support these premier quality races which cater for the needs of runners of all abilities and speeds.
“We’re keen to establish partnership with respected race companies like Active Leisure Events as it supports our mission to raise awareness that all headphones are no longer the same. AfterShokz active lifestyle headphones are designed to allow runners to safely stay connected to mobile devices and listen to their
favourite tunes without sacrificing situational awareness, especially in fields of several thousand runners as we see in Cheshire’s record-breaking running events.”
Active Leisure Events are the organisers of the MBNA Chester Marathon (26.2 miles) & MBNA Metric Marathon (26.2 km), Chester Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and the Sport in The Port Events (10k, 5k & 1 mile).
AfterShokz open ear headphones have secured a series of national and international awards for their innovation and design.
