Popular children’s fun run will help raise money for The Babygrow Appeal
Entries capped at 350 with organisers expecting a sell-out in advance of the event
A popular fun run held on the same day as the MBNA Chester Marathon is now accepting online entries following rising demand for places from families and children.
The annual MBNA Chester Mini Marathon is a one-mile race around Chester Racecourse and has been a sell-out every year since its inception, helping to raise money for a range of different local and national charities.
This year’s race charity partner is The Countess of Chester Hospital’s Babygrow Appeal and with places limited to just 350, organisers have introduced online sign ups for the first time to give race day visitors every opportunity to register.
“We created this race to give our MBNA Chester Marathon and MBNA Metric Marathon runners’ families and supporters the chance to take part in something fun but with a real race-day experience”, said Chris Hulse from race organisers Active Leisure Events.
“We’ve always accepted fun run sign ups on the weekend of the races but last year we were overwhelmed by the number of people wanting to take part. That’s why we’ve introduced advance online booking this year – to give people more time to enter and to make sure that those travelling to Chester for the main events from other areas of the UK or even further afield have the chance to get involved.”
Taking place on Sunday 4 October – the same day as the MBNA Chester Marathon and Metric Marathon – all MBNA Chester Mini Marathon participants will be given a souvenir race t-shirt and race number, with all finishers receiving a bespoke medal, bottle of water and a treat.
The race is designed to be fun and as such there are no official timings or prizes for winners. Children of all ages and abilities are encouraged to enter but parents, guardians and grandparents are also welcome to sign up.
The registration fee is £4, or £5 including a £1 donation to this year’s charity, The Babygrow Appeal.
