Thousands of runners from across the North West descended on MediaCityUK and Salford Quays on Sunday (4th September) to take part in this year’s UKFast City of Salford 10K.

The race welcomed around 4000 entries from runners who enjoyed one of the fastest 10k courses in the region taking in the scenic route around Salford Quays and MediaCityUK.

Kevin Harmer, UK Events and Sponsorship Manager for the event owner Sports Tours International commented: “Over the past few years the race has continued to grow to become one of most popular races in the region, and on Sunday it was great to see such a fantastic turn out of runners and supporters.

“It was a brilliant atmosphere in Salford, the weather stayed dry and it was great to see so many runners raising money for lots of good causes. People of all ages and abilities took part and we would like to thank everyone for making the effort.”

The race started at 10.15am on the MediaCityUK piazza and followed a route around Salford Quays and Trafford Park before crossing the bridge back into MediaCityUK to the finish line.

Manchester-based cloud provider UKFast was welcomed as the official title sponsor for this year’s race and entered a team of XX runners to take part in the event.

UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones MBE said: “It’s fantastic see so many people taking the initiative and getting up and running in Salford. It was an incredible day and it’s inspiring that runners of all ages and abilities come together to enjoy it. We’re on our way to making this one of the outstanding dates in the running calendar.”

Many runners were raising money for The Christie, this year’s official charity partner, as well as their own chosen charities.

Runners included marathon legend Ron Hill MBE, a team of over 60 runners from Salford City Council and former England rugby league player Adrian Morley.
