One Running Movement (ORM), a collaborative evolution for movement and change #MoveForLife, is bringing Schools Half Marathon | The Barony supported by National Pride and Active Schools to East Ayrshire this autumn.

With COVID-19 related measures and restrictions in place across Scotland, the importance of movement to benefit both physical and mental health is more relevant than ever before.

National Pride, a Community Interest Company established in 2018, has recently purchased The Barony with the intention of creating an eco-therapy wellness centre on the site.

As part of their investment in the area and in line with their core values, National Pride has funded a number of places for school children in the surrounding area of The Barony to complete their own Schools Half Marathon The Barony this year.

Schools Half Marathon is organised by One Running Movement (ORM) which was established to help create more active communities and support the creation of healthy habits, utilising the power of sport to improve physical and health and mental health.

The 2020 Schools Half Marathon The Barony will be taking place virtually, with the children completing their own cumulative 13.1 miles at school or at home before the end of the year, supported by Active Schools East Ayrshire Council.

All young runners will receive a Schools Half Marathon Colour My Miles Tracker, a wall tracker, a 6 star wristband awarded on completion of six miles, a One Running Movement technical t-shirt and a special edition finisher’s medal. The special edition “The Barony A-Frame“ medal is based on the huge pit-head winding gear frame which is all that remains of the colliery, reflecting the area’s history and heritage.

Irene Bisset, Chair at National Pride, said, “The Barony is an exciting, new project for National Pride and we are delighted to support local ORM activities. These fit perfectly with our belief in the role of the natural environment in wellness, physical and mental health.

“We are very proud to fund free places for primary school aged children in East Ayrshire, working with One Running Movement and Active Schools to encourage the future generation to be active. Being outside and experiencing nature has never been more important.”

Joe Williams and Rebecca Richardson, Founders of One Running Movement, added: “One Running Movement is very much aligned with National Pride’s mission, ethos and core values. We enjoy working with the team and continue to make a difference to current and future generations through the power of sport and movement, with health and wellness at the forefront of everybody’s mind.

“The Barony A-Frame is a symbol of local pride and hope, and we are sure that the special edition medals earned by the young movers will find a proud place in their homes.“
