Shrewsbury Half Marathon 2022, Sunday October 9th.
We return to our original route in 2022, starting and finishing at The Shropshire County Showground.
The beautiful opening to the race starts by hugging the River Severn for the first two miles, running through the stunning Quarry park, before entering the Town. Look out in the next stretch for the imposing St Chads Church, maybe even pop back here post-race to see Ebeneezer Scrooge’s grave from the 1984 film A Christmas Carol which was filmed locally. You will then run through the town centre passing medieval black and white buildings dating back hundreds of years. Other landmarks include internationally renowned Shrewsbury School which you run past in mile 5, Shrewsbury Library, the former school of Shrewsbury’s most well known son, Charles Darwin and the incredible Shrewsbury Castle, which dates back to 1070! Tip, pre or post-race go and visit Laura’s Tower within the Castle grounds for incredible views for miles around. Look out for some of the unusual street names including, Grope Lane, Dog Pole and Wyle Cop which has The longest run of uninterrupted independent shops in the UK. The second half of the race takes you out into the lovely Shropshire Countryside, where from 18km onwards you will enjoy a nice decline to help with your fast finish towards the West Mid Showground.
