Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon

Schools Half Marathon, an inspiring initiative to get primary school children active, has announced a 3-year partnership with leading ethical water brand One Water.

One will be supporting Schools Half Marathon by providing a carton of One Water to every child who crosses the finish line of the various events taking place across the UK during 2019 and beyond. These events will host the final leg of an exciting cumulative half marathon challenge that the children have been working towards at school, and will see hundreds of youngsters cross the finish line and receive their well-deserved medal, water and other race treats.

One Water - Shrewsbury Half MarathonOne Water is still mountain water packaged in a fully recyclable carton made with sustainable paperboard from FSC-approved forests. It is a great alternative to a plastic bottle and a real way for a running event such as Schools Half Marathon to reduce its impact on the environment. On another level, it is also a valuable step towards improving lives on the other side of the world, with every carton of One Water funding life-changing water projects in the world’s poorest communities.

By supporting One Water, Schools Half Marathon will be making a positive contribution towards transforming lives around the world whilst respecting the environment. The partnership very much reflects the commitment of organisers UK Run Events to partner with like-minded brands who share their values of wellbeing, runner support and community spirit. More partnerships are due to be announced over the coming months.

UK Run Events made its mark as leader of the pack by being the first running event in the UK to offer cartons of One Water to runners at the finish line. It introduced the initiative at the highly successful Shrewsbury Half Marathon in 2018 and the response was extremely positive.

Schools Half MarathonSchools Half Marathon was introduced in Shropshire in 2018 and proved such a success that it has quickly grown to become a nationwide initiative, with challenges taking place this year in Shropshire (6th April), Telford and Wrekin (15th June), Brighton and Hove (22nd June), Stockport (1st July) and West Sussex (14th July).

Schools Half Marathon Director Rebecca Richardson commented, “We are extremely proud to confirm a three-year partnership with One Water and to be able to offer all primary school children a carton of water as they complete their Schools Half Marathon. By limiting the use of single-use plastics we are showing a great example to the youngsters of the importance of being environmentally aware whilst helping to provide clean, safe water for people across the world.”

Paul Vita, Managing Director at The One Brand, added, “We are delighted to be partnering with UK Run Events as part of the Schools Running Movement and providing cartons of One Water at the finish line of all Schools Half Marathon events. We are fully behind Schools Half Marathon in their effort to get children active from the age of 4 to 11, and it is fantastic to be able to provide them with the healthiest form of hydration possible.”
