The organisers of On Shrewsbury Half Marathon have announced Shropshire Poppy Appeal as a Charity Partner for the event on Sunday 6th October 2019.
On Shrewsbury Half Marathon has donated five free places to the charity, which can be claimed in return for a pledge to raise a minimum of £200 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. This is a fantastic chance for runners to take part in a friendly and professional race, have a superb autumn goal to work towards and put their efforts towards raising money for an important cause.
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November, the period of Remembrance. All funds raised by The Poppy Appeal go towards providing help and support to serving and ex-Service men and women and their dependents. The Shropshire Poppy Appeal plays a huge part in this, raising almost £500,000 as a county each year through year-round fundraising.
With just under 10 weeks to go, now is the perfect time for runners to set themselves a half marathon challenge and get race fit by the autumn. The summer months are the ideal time to put a training plan in place, and running for charity offers a fantastic added incentive for getting over the finish line.
Any runner wishing to join Team Legion at On Shrewsbury Half Marathon can do so by contacting the Community Fundraiser, Jenny Robey, by telephone: 07918 562 902 or email: email@example.com.
Shropshire Poppy Appeal will be present on the day with a team of volunteers, a stall selling merchandise and a dedicated cheer squad manning a section of the route and providing fantastic support to runners.
On Shrewsbury Half Marathon offers an attractive combination of history and scenery, its course taking in Shrewsbury’s Medieval city centre and the beautiful Shropshire countryside. The race starts and finishes at Shropshire County Showground, home to a fully-equipped race village.
Swiss shoe brand On is Official Sports Brand for the 2019 event #ShrewsburyIsOn, and Up & Running returns as Official Sports Retail Partner.
Race Director Joe Williams commented, “We are delighted to welcome Shropshire Poppy Appeal as a Charity Partner for On Shrewsbury Half Marathon 2019. This is a truly fantastic cause and we hope that many runners will use the opportunity to get fit and raise vital funds to help the Armed Forces Community live on. On Shrewsbury Half Marathon is ideal for those new to running through to seasoned half marathon runners. The atmosphere is incredible, the scenery is stunning and the runner support is second-to-none. We can’t wait to welcome everyone this glorious day of running in October.”
Jenny Robey, Community Fundraiser at Shropshire Poppy Appeal, added, “We are thrilled to partner On Shrewsbury Half Marathon and to be able to offer five free places for this much-loved race. We have been present at the event for the last few years and it really is a fantastic day for everyone involved. It is a privilege to come on board as a Charity Partner for 2019 and to be a part of the amazing sense of community at On Shrewsbury Half Marathon. All funds raised by our runners will help us to continue the vital work of the Royal British Legion in supporting serving and ex-Service personnel. In return we offer full support in terms of fundraising, a charity vest and a big cheer squad on the day!”
