One of Wales’ most popular running events is returning for 2017 – bigger and better than ever!

Previously known as the Cardiff Bay 5 Mile, the Cardiff Bay Run will take place on Sunday 2nd April with a stunning new 10K course around Cardiff’s historic Bay. Originally staged as a 10K in 2009, it will be the seventh edition of the event with Cystic Fibrosis Trust once again teaming up as the Official Charity Partner.

Matt Newman, chief executive of race organisers Run 4 Wales, commented: “This is an event that runners of all ages and abilities can enjoy. We see it as a perfect stepping stone for those training for the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon in October 2017, and for the new Cardiff & Vale Marathon, scheduled for April 2018.

“The event attracted over 2,000 runners when it was last staged in 2015, and we are hoping the increase from the old five-mile route to a full-blown 10K will see even more runners take part!

“We’re working with Cardiff Council to confirm a finalised route and start time, which will take in all of Cardiff Bay’s iconic landmarks – starting and finishing in Roald Dahl Plass, passing the Wales Millennium Centre, Mermaid Quay, Pierhead Building, Senedd, Porth Teigr and the Cardiff Bay Barrage.”

The flat and fast course gives elite and club athletes the opportunity to race for a personal best but is also suitable for those simply looking to keep fit, raise money for charity or take on the challenge of their first event. Runners already signed up to the 2017 Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon looking to use the Cardiff Bay Run as part of their training can take advantage of a discounted entry offer!

It promises to be a great family day out with street food, live music and family entertainment all on offer in the race village and the Family Fun Run kicking off the morning’s proceedings before the main race. Sign up for the Cardiff Bay Run by visiting www.cardiffbayrun.co.uk. Entry for the 10K starts from just £19 and includes a technical t-shirt & finishers’ medal.
