The Tour of Tameside returns to the region from Thursday 15th June – Sunday 18th June 2017.

The Tour of Tameside, one of the most iconic events in the athletics calendar returns in its 4 day format in June 2017. After the success its reintroduction in 2015 and second year in 2016, runners of this backto-back ultimate running challenge will be pleased to learn that they can secure their entry from 10.00am on Monday 31st October.

Sports Tours International is delighted to bring the event back once more, which was the brainchild of ambassador Dr Ron Hill MBE back in 1983.

Ron said: “After the 25% increase in running numbers in 2016 – we felt that the 2017 Tour of Tameside should remain the same to give competitors the opportunity to run the same testing routes once more and try and better their time”.

The decorated distance runner added; “The Ultimate Running Challenge is an event that many runners add to their calendar of races and look forward to month in advance as do I. The history that surrounds the event and the buzz of running on four different routes in beautiful surroundings really does set it apart from all the others”.

The event will begin with Stage 1 the ‘X-Trail 10k’ on Thursday evening the 15th of June in Daisy Nook and Park Bridge Country Parks before moving onto Stage 2, on Friday evening the 16th of June, the infamous ‘Hell on the Fell’ in Copley will take place.

Stage 3 is Saturday morning the 17th of June where runners will take on the 13.1 mile ‘Hero Half Marathon’ down the Longendale Trail before the final day, Stage 4 on Sunday the 18th June where the Tour will finish with the classic ‘Dr Ron 7’ – a seven mile road run where many friends and family will line the route to welcome the competitors home.

The Tour recognises that not all runners wish to run all four days back-to-back, so Sports Tours International have again opened up ‘Single Stage Entries’ for those wishing to run one, two or three of the individual days. The option encourages beginners and those who wish to run shorter to still become a part of the Tour of Tameside.
