1st up, its Paul Addicott

Why did you start to run?

Oh, well I ran a bit when I was a kid but nothing major, mainly as part of other sport like rugby. Then decided I would do a half marathon in 2005 as I thought I could, with no running training. I went to uni and in 2009 thought, hey let’s do another. My fitness was poorer I realised and I found this much harder. So it was then I started to run and really considered training as a runner.

What do you love most about running?

I love the social element of events, and sharing achievements. It’s great seeing people getting fitter and reaching their goals, before making new ones.

How often do you run?

Not enough, but perhaps 3 times a week on a good week

Do you have a favourite race you have ran?

I love running in London. My favourite events are probably London marathon and royals Parks half. But their are so many fantastic events out there, and many more I’m yet to enjoy.

Do you have a favourite medal?

My Disney Half… come on it’s Disney 👍

What’s the best piece of advice you have been given about running?

Don’t be greedy at the start of an event. Get your pace right, and ensure you can finish as strong as you started. This is more true the longer you do. You can get away with going to hard on shorter events to a certain extent, and this can create PB’s. But on longer distances this early gain can ruin the race.

What running shoes do you wear?

I mix brand and styles which I think helps prevent injury. I do like ultraboost, but they never last me long

You are stuck on a desert island with 3 people, who are they?

My wife and 2 children. They are at the centre of everything I do, and wouldn’t want to be anywhere without them as part of it.

Favourite film and why?

Shawshank Redemption. An old classic, so many films I could list but this one is a clever thought provoking film. Remember, “salvation lies within” we are masters of our own destiny.

2nd up this evening is Andy Holgate

Where are you from?

Lancaster

Why did you start to run?

I ran as a child but injured my knees. Came back to it as an overweight adult in my mid 30s. Used it as a springboard to get fit enough to compete in ironman triathlons.

What do you love most about running?

I just love the buzz of being outside with my own thoughts, working hard to get faster and longer. Nothing beats running.

How often do you run?

5 or 6 times a week Do you have a favourite race you have ran?

Favourite running race was the St Petersburg Florida Christmas 5km, was just a good laugh. Great atmosphere with glow bands and jingle bells.

Favourite triathlon was ironman Germany – amazing race, nearly killed myself setting a pb and fantastic post race beer and saline drip 🙂

Do you have a favourite medal?

My medal from Ironman Germany

What’s the best piece of advice you have been given about running?

Enjoy it, and keep moving forward because your mind will tell you to quit way before your body is ready to.

What running shoes do you wear?

Sketchers Go Run Ultra

You are stuck on a desert island with 3 people, who are they?

Charlie Spedding – my running hero, met him as a child and remember him being a nice bloke.
My wife Emma – I have to say that, Walt Disney – I’m a massive Disney geek and it would be amazing to pick his mind.

Favourite film and why?

Jaws – love everything about this film. I became fascinated by great white sharks on seeing this as a child, I wanted to be a shark biologist like Hooper, but science wasn’t my thing in he end. But I did get to dive with them, beautiful and graceful up close.
