Our first co-host tonight is Lauren from Ely.

Why did you start to run?

In 2010 I was on a business trip in the US and wanted to get on a cross trainer in the hotel gym. They were all being used by older folk reading magazines and barely moving, so I jumped on a treadmill instead. Despite saying I would never understand why people run, I kind of enjoyed it, and decided to give it a go on the streets when I returned home. I would do the odd mile or two, and then shortly afterwards a charity I’ve always supported, CoppaFeel!, announced that it was looking for people to run the Bath Half for them, so I signed up on a bit of a whim and 11 months after I started running I did my first half.

What do you love most about running?

The fact that during a really good run, I feel unstoppable. There’s nothing like the runner’s high. That and the friendships I’ve made because of it.

How often do you run?

On average 3 times a week.

Do you have a favourite race you have ran?

The Cambridge Half Marathon or the Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog. Totally different, but both loads of fun.

Do you have a favourite medal?

The Cambridge Half Marathon one is awesome. Always obscenely huge.

What’s the best piece of advice you have been given about running?

Supplement your training with S&C, and always stretch afterwards. Also, there’s no point taking anything home with you (i.e. give that last rep everything you’ve got).

What running shoes do you wear?

At the moment I’m on Saucony Guide 9s.

You are stuck on a desert island with 3 people, who are they?

Jessie Graff because she can climb all the trees, Susie Chan for her eternal optimism and mental toughness and my husband because he can put up with all of my annoying habits!

Favourite film and why?

Shaun of the Dead, because I love a zombie movie. And Rafe Spall.

Why did you start to run?

My doctor recommended I try exercising after a rough period with my asthma, running was one of the things I tried and I got hooked. I found running really difficult at the start but once I broke 3 miles I started to believe I could actually do this on a regular basis. Over the time the more running I did the better my asthma got.

What do you love most about running?

I love other runner’s passion for running and support other runners. I mainly run alone but in sharing stories we all go through the same things together, whether its sore legs, pre race nerves or post race hunger. To a non runner talking about whether to take water running or not might seem mundane but every runner would have an opinion… and not just on the decision we’ve not even got onto what vessel the water is going in.
