The London 2012 legacy is at risk from Covid-19, according to Ealing Half Marathon’s founder, Kelvin Walker.
“Our event is one of the largest London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy events and we’re at risk from the impacts of COVID-19, unless more entries are received very soon.
“We are asking for help to keep Ealing’s Olympic legacy event running: enter today, encourage a friend to enter, gift a place or simply buy some of our fantastic merchandise. The income boost from the community support will hopefully enable us to host this year’s event and plan for Ealing Half Marathon 2022.
“The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games was built on a foundation of legacy. London’s pitch to host the Games highlighted the fact that no Olympics had ever led to an increase in participation in the host nation population. We were inspired by London 2012 and motivated to create a lasting legacy of the Games with an event that the people of Ealing could be proud of.
“We ran our first Ealing Half Marathon in September 2012 and we’ve enjoyed fantastic support ever since, winning national awards and attracting over 5,000 participants each year.”
The Ealing Half Marathon, owned by a not-for-profit CIC (Community Interest Company), is planned for Sunday 26 September 2021. The event has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity throughout its 8 previous events.
Entries for the 2021 Ealing Half Marathon are now open and cost £48 (affiliated) and £50 (unaffiliated). Refunds will be offered if the race doesn’t go ahead. Runners can enter now at www.ealinghalfmarathon.com
