Leicester is to host a major new charity road race that is set to run up a big cash boost for local good causes, it was announced today.

Thousands of runners will take to the city’s streets on Sunday September 3rd 2017 to take part in the first ever Asda Foundation Leicester 10K.

The event is the latest addition to the hugely successful 10K series, supported by the Asda Foundation, and organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All – part of the legacy of the late inspirational Jane Tomlinson CBE.

Anyone aged 15 and over can enter the new Leicester 10K and entries are open now at www.runforall.com

The Leicester 10K course is flat, and suitable for all ages and abilities from beginners just starting out on their fitness journey to experienced fast runners looking for a personal best.

Starting and finishing in Abbey Park, it will take the runners across the Grand Union Canal, onto Vaughan Way and into the city centre, past the Richard III visitor centre in the shadow of the cathedral. It continues close to the Guildhall, goes on to twice across the River Soar and ends with a final – and victorious – lap of the park.

Run For All’s calendar already includes Asda Foundation events in Sheffield, Nottingham, Lincoln, Leeds, York, Hull, Bury and Burnley.

Julie Ward, Senior Manager of the Asda Foundation, said: “Leicester will be a fantastic addition to the 2017 Asda Foundation 10K Series, which is already shaping up to be the best yet. “As well as a great opportunity to take on a new challenge, the event presents an excellent way to raise money for some excellent local causes.”

The Asda Foundation 10Ks are organised by Run For All and are part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by tackling a string of gruelling challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Charlie Tatman, Run For All events manager, said: “As home to the Premier League champions and the successful Leicester Tigers Rugby Union club, Leicester enjoys a deserved reputation as a city of sport and we are really looking forward to organising a new 10K there.”
