The organisers of On Shrewsbury Half Marathon have announced Shropshire Poppy Appeal as a Charity Partner for the event on Sunday 6th October 2019.

Royal British LegionOn Shrewsbury Half Marathon has donated five free places to the charity, which can be claimed in return for a pledge to raise a minimum of £200 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. This is a fantastic chance for runners to take part in a friendly and professional race, have a superb autumn goal to work towards and put their efforts towards raising money for an important cause.

The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November, the period of Remembrance. All funds raised by The Poppy Appeal go towards providing help and support to serving and ex-Service men and women and their dependents. The Shropshire Poppy Appeal plays a huge part in this, raising almost £500,000 as a county each year through year-round fundraising.

With just under 10 weeks to go, now is the perfect time for runners to set themselves a half marathon challenge and get race fit by the autumn. The summer months are the ideal time to put a training plan in place, and running for charity offers a fantastic added incentive for getting over the finish line.

Any runner wishing to join Team Legion at On Shrewsbury Half Marathon can do so by contacting the Community Fundraiser, Jenny Robey, by telephone: 07918 562 902 or email: jrobey@britishlegion.org.uk

Shropshire Poppy Appeal will be present on the day with a team of volunteers, a stall selling merchandise and a dedicated cheer squad manning a section of the route and providing fantastic support to runners.
