Shrewsbury Half Marathon 2018

The Shrewsbury Half is back, bigger and better for 2018. We took over the running of the Shrewsbury Half Marathon in 2016 to great success and have been building on the hard work we did over the last few year and welcoming friends, old and new. The Shrewsbury Half offers our runners the opportunity to take in both the medieval town centre of Shrewsbury as well as some of Shropshire’s beautiful countryside.

The course begins and ends at the Shropshire County Show ground. The 53-acre ground lends itself to all sorts of events, with ample parking, toilets and an extensive camping facilities, the showground has the capacity to cater for all.

You run along the river in the beautiful Quarry, home of the Shrewsbury Flower show, then through the historic town centre before heading out over the English bridge to do run a loop in the Kingsland estate.

After you ‘conquer the Wyle Cop’ you then head out to run the second half of the race in the Shropshire countryside before finishing back in the showground where you will pick up your medal, tech t-shirt and goodie bag.

Early Bird Registration is now live: affiliated £26 & non affiliated £28. (Plus booking fee £1.75. Early Bird entries close on November 30th 2017).

The Route
While the course begins and ends at the Shropshire County Show ground, the route itself takes in both the medieval town centre of Shrewsbury and some of Shropshire’s beautiful countryside.

As you run through the town centre you will be treated to over 600 listed building, lots of which are black and white timber framed and steep narrow streets with obscure names. You will run along Mardol Head, Milk Street, Wyle Cop, Dog Pole and past Grope Lane to name but a few.

Look out for Shrewsbury Library formally a school, attended by Shrewsbury’s most famous son Charles Darwin and across from this the Castle which has stood for centuries. After you ‘conquer the Wyle Cop’ you then head out to run the second half of the race in the Shropshire countryside before finishing back in the showground.

You medal.

Your goody bag & tshirt

You pick all of these up in the funnel.  Please note and pass on to your friends and family that spectators will not be able to get into the finishing funnel.  We know you have just ran a Half Marathon and will likely be feeling tired but we will ask you to keep moving, pick up your finishers items and out of the funnel.  We ask you to do this because there will be a large number of runners coming in just behind you.  When you leave the funnel if you look left you will see a red roof on a tent by the start line where you can go and meet the team from JC Systems who will give you a print out of your finishing time.

If you retire from the race it’s really important that you please let the nearest Marshal to you know and give them your race number. This is so we can account for you at the end of the race.

Remember to grab your print out of your time when you exit the finishers funnel.  If you have not received an email with your time and position, then please check your spam folder. We have had quite a few returned emails as the email addresses provided are incorrect. Full results will appear at My Race Result but takes a couple of days for them to appear. We will post the link here and on social media when it becomes available.
