Xtra Mile Events, one of the UK’s leading sports events companies, has released its calendar of events for 2017 which is going to be its 10th anniversary season. Based in Hale Barns, Cheshire, Xtra Mile Events organises high profile triathlons, duathlons and running events across the North West of England and Wales with all events now open for registration.

The first Xtra Mile Event took place in 2007 and the events company has been growing consistently ever since, with thousands of participants on the start line each season. The organisers are passionate about getting athletes of all levels involved from complete novices to elites, and their triathlons range from pool-based sprint races to challenging open water middle and standard distance races as well as Swycles (swim followed by a cycle leg) and Aquathlons (swim followed by a run).

The company prides itself on providing well-organised, fun and friendly events with a brilliant atmosphere, and sees athletes of all levels return year after year to go their ‘xtra mile’.

The Xtra Mile Events 2017 Calendar starts with the ASICS Oulton Park Half Marathon & 10K on 26th February 2017. Taking place for the third year running at the famous Oulton Park motor racing circuit in Cheshire, this is an ideal event to kick off the road running season. Athletes have the choice of running 3 laps or 6 laps of the iconic circuit for the 10K and Half Marathon respectively, both of which culminate in a glorious finish straight in the pit lane.

This is shortly followed by the Oulton Park Spring Duathlon at the same location on 5th March which offers both a sprint and a standard distance race.

The Wilmslow Triathlon is the first triathlon of the season, taking place on 14th May. A fantastic pool sprint triathlon, this is a sell out event aimed at athletes of all levels taking place around the leafy Cheshire town of Wilmslow and on the picturesque Cheshire plains.

25th June then sees the return of the popular Llandudno Sea Triathlon Sprint and Standard Distance in North Wales, with the new addition of a middle distance option for 2017. The sprint distance race will be an ITU Sprint Distance World Championship qualifier and will be draft legal. This is one of the UK’s most spectacular triathlons incorporating the thrill of a sea swim, a challenging cycle section around the Great Orme, and a run section out along the Victorian Promenade and over the Little Orme to Penrhyn Bay before finishing on the promenade.

September and October welcome in some excellent autumn events, starting with the Macmillan Leeds Triathlon in the city’s famous Roundhay Park on 3rd September. This is a tough open water sprint and standard triathlon comprising a lake swim, a scenic yet challenging cycle section out of the park and a final run stage around the impressive park. Competitors can be sure of plenty of support as each year large crowds of spectators turn out to cheer on the athletes as they complete each stage and cross the finish line.

The South Manchester Triathlon takes place two weeks later on 17th September and incorporates a 400m swim at Wilmslow Leisure Centre, a 24.2km cycle and a 6.3km run in the peaceful Cheshire countryside.

Finally, 8th October sees a return to Oulton Park as the Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon gets under way. This is a fantastic chance to finish the season with a thrilling sprint or standard distance triathlon at one of the country’s finest motor racing circuits. Comprising a cycle and a run, and with transition in the pits, the race is held entirely on the traffic-free race track, giving competitors a chance to really get some speed up on the straights and round the banked hairpin. The iconic venue also lends itself perfectly to spectator support, which guarantees a superb atmosphere.
