In a thrilling weekend at the San Pedro de la Paz World Cup, Miriam Casillas made history as she secured Spain’s first female World Cup gold in a decade, overcoming a dramatic 10-second penalty during the run. Casillas broke away from the field after a strong swim and bike leg, outpacing key rivals such as Jeanne Lehair and Sophie Howell in the final kilometres.

This victory marked a significant milestone in Casillas’ comeback journey after years of injuries, highlighting her resilience and strategic racing under tense conditions. Lehair claimed silver after overtaking Howell in the penalty zone, with Howell earning her maiden World Cup podium by finishing third.

On the men’s side, Manoel Messias (BRA) continued his outstanding form by clinching back-to-back World Cup wins, following his recent triumph in Vina del Mar. The race featured a large and competitive field, with a fast swim led initially by Diego Moya and a crazy fast run segment that saw Messias surge ahead in the final kilometre. He held off a determined chase from Spain’s David Cantero Del Campo, who took silver, while Sergio Baxter Cabrera sprinted to bronze in a hard-fought finish.
