From the myth of the mysterious “Kullamannen” to the salt-stung winds of the Skåne coast, Kullamannen by UTMB® is more than a race — it’s a rite of passage. Nearly 3,000 runners from 50 countries will descend on Sweden this weekend to take part in one of the toughest and most iconic trail running events in Northern Europe.

Held in the wild and rugged landscapes of southern Sweden, Kullamannen by UTMB® is the only UTMB World Series event in Sweden — and in all of Scandinavia. It offers one of the final chances in Europe to earn Running Stones and boost your UTMB Index before registration opens in January 2026 for the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc.

A race forged in legend

The event was born from the local legend of the “Kullamannen” — a mysterious figure said to haunt the cliffs of Kullaberg. That spirit lives on in the race’s dramatic atmosphere: darkness, fire, and a knight on horseback leading runners into the night. But the real challenge lies in the terrain and conditions.

Runners face cold winds, relentless humidity, slippery mud, and salt spray in their eyes as they battle through forests, bogs, and coastal cliffs. This year’s Ultra 100 miles – “Heaven, Sea and Hell” includes a new loop through the Hallandsåsen plateau, adding remote, hilly terrain with minimal aid — a true test of endurance.

Four distances, one epic weekend

  • Ultra 100 miles – “Heaven, Sea and Hell”
  • Sprint Ultra 100 km
  • Seventh Seal 50 km
  • North Shore 20 km

The two longest races start in Höganäs on Friday night, plunging runners into darkness and silence. Meanwhile, the Seventh Seal 50K and North Shore 20K begin in Båstad, the heart of the race weekend, offering shorter but still demanding challenges.

A new finish line in a legendary arena

For the first time, the finish line moves to the centre court of the Båstad tennis stadium, a venue that has hosted legends of the sport. This symbolic location adds a new layer of prestige to the race, welcoming trail runners to cross the line where champions have stood.

Elite field ready to battle

Over 30 elite athletes are registered, including:

  • Alexandre “Green Cap” Bouechix (FRA)
  • William Englund (SWE)
  • Eevi Bengs (FIN)
  • Anna-Stina Erkkilä (FIN)

They will lead the charge in a race that promises drama, grit, and unforgettable moments.

Beyond the race: a Nordic trail celebration for all

While the athletes battle the brutal terrain of Kullaberg, the event blossoms into a full celebration of trail culture. From the inspiring Pace on Earth Talks to the joyful Kids Races in both Båstad and Höganäs, and the community-driven Social Run on Friday, Kullamannen offers something for everyone. This year, Båstad takes on a new role as a life base for the 100-mile race, welcoming runners from 4:00 AM onwards. It’s a moment for supporters and families to refuel their loved ones with energy, warmth, and encouragement — turning the town into a beating heart of the race.
