Two-time IRONMAN World Champion Patrick Lange is setting his sights on a long-awaited victory at the Mainova IRONMAN® European Championship Frankfurt on August 18th, 2024. Renowned for being the fastest marathon runner on the IRONMAN circuit, Lange will be looking to conquer the iconic Frankfurt course, where he has yet to secure the top podium spot.

Taking to social media last week, Lange said “I can’t wait to race there in front of my home crowd. It’s going to be a super, super important race for me personally.”

Lange also announced that he would be committing to the newly formed IRONMAN Pro Series, which is a performance-based world series contested over 12 months at 18 designated IRONMAN and IRONMAN® 70.3® events. In addition to Mainova IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt, Lange will also be racing at the Athletic Brewing IRONMAN 70 3 Oceanside, the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN North American Championship Texas, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series and of course the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.

Lange comes fresh off an impressive second-place finish at the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Nice, France. The podium finish solidified his position as a top contender and fueled his hunger for further victories.

Lange’s participation in the Mainova IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt is guaranteed to spark excitement among triathlon fans worldwide. The Mainova IRONMAN European Championship in Frankfurt holds a unique challenge for Patrick Lange, the two-time IRONMAN World Champion. Despite dominating the sport and possessing the fastest run on the circuit, Frankfurt remains the one major title missing from his trophy cabinet. Twice he’s stood at the starting line, twice he’s fallen short of the top podium. In 2018, legends like Sebastian Kienle and Jan Frodeno edged him out for the win, leaving him in 3rd place.

Oliver Schiek, Regional Director DACH, expressed his enthusiasm for Lange’s participation: “Frankfurt is electric with anticipation for Patrick’s return! Having a two-time IRONMAN World Champion like him chasing unfinished business on our course elevates the entire race to another level. It’s going to be an epic battle, and fans worldwide will be on the edge of their seats to see if he can finally claim Frankfurt glory. This is triathlon history in the making!”

Mainova IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt, which celebrates its 22nd anniversary this year, is one of the most prestigious races on the circuit, and has seen many of triathlon’s greats race to victory – such as Olympian and three-time IRONMAN World Champion, Jan Frodeno, and five-time IRONMAN World Champion, Daniela Ryf. This year, it will play host to the men’s IRONMAN European Championship, with the women’s IRONMAN European Championship taking place in Hamburg on 2 June 2024.

Limited entries for age-groupers remain. The race offers Men’s and Women’s Age Group Qualifying slots to the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Nice, France on 22 September 2024 (women), and Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i on 26 October 2024 (men). It also offers Women’s Age Group Qualifying slots to the 2025 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i on 11 October 2025.
