I’ve worn a lot of different running shorts over the years, and finding a pair that stays where it should without needing constant adjustment is surprisingly difficult. Some ride up in the legs, others fall down at the waist, so I was excited to try the KitFox Reset 7″ Running Shorts.
KitFox was founded by Mary, who started running more than 12 years ago and describes herself as a lifelong member of the back-of-the-pack. Since then, she’s moved on to marathons and ultras, but says one thing remained frustratingly familiar: finding running kit that actually worked for her.
That’s the thinking behind KitFox: creating running kit for everyday women, with the idea that performance gear should fit the runner rather than the other way around. The brand is also built around community involvement, with women involved in detailed surveys and product testing.
What did I think of the Reset 7″ Running Shorts?
I usually wear a size 14, and after checking the KitFox size guide I opted for a Large. The fit is spot on. They’re made from a soft, stretchy material and the 7″ length sits around mid-thigh on me. I like the shape too – they give a nice silhouette without feeling tight or restrictive.
The waistband sits on my waist rather than creeping down, and there’s an adjustable elastic drawstring if you need it.
The silicone grippers around the hem help keep the shorts in place. I’ve worn them for several shorter runs as well as a 20-mile run, and I’ve never had them riding up.
The real test came on a 10-hour day out in the hills, when it rained continuously for the first five hours. Normally, I’d expect to get some chafing around my waistband after that much time out, particularly when everything is wet, and wearing a heavy pack full of kit, but I didn’t with these. They remained comfortable even when I was sweaty and completely soaked through.
The pockets are another big plus. There are two large pockets on the thighs – one easily fits my phone, while I’ve been using the other for a handkerchief or dog poo bags. There’s also a zipped pocket at the back which is ideal for keys.
I’ve washed them several times now and they still look as good as they did when I first received them. I also love the navy colour of them.
I’ve genuinely struggled to find anything negative to say about these shorts. They’re comfortable, stay put, have loads of useful storage and have stood up well to some pretty wet and long days out.
My verdict
A really comfortable pair of running shorts that have performed well over both shorter runs and long days on the trails. If you’re looking for shorts that stay put without needing constant adjustment, these are definitely worth a look.
