As the IRONMAN Pro Series takes a short hiatus in Europe, other IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 races across the continent are set to welcome a strong cohort of professional athletes as they battle it out in order for their ticket to the IRONMAN World Championship and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlons. Fans can follow the action by downloading the IRONMAN Athlete Tracker App.
IRONMAN Kärnten-Klagenfurt, Austria (15 June, 2025)
This Sunday, the stunning town of Klagenfurt will welcome a 45-plus male professional field. Reigning Champion, and two-time IRONMAN European Champion, Denis Chevrot (FRA) will be wearing bib number one. In last year’s race, Chevrot was involved in an epic run battle with fellow Frenchman Arthur Horseau and Jon Breivold (NOR) which eventually saw Chevrot put down his dominant run form the take the victory.
His main threats will come in the guise of compatriot, Clement Mignon, whose impressive fifth place finish at Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote triathlon last month wasn’t quite enough to secure one of the IRONMAN World Championship qualifying slots.
Eyes will also be on local interest Michael Weiss (AUT) who DNF’ed at the last two editions of the race, after placing second in 2022. Most recently, Weiss came sixth at the ISUZU IRONMAN South Africa African Championship triathlon, but that also wasn’t enough to ensure his start at the 2025 IRONMAN World Championship triathlon in Nice.
Great Britain’s Joe Skipper will also be back to IRONMAN racing since punching his ticket to the IRONMAN World Championship triathlon at IRONMAN New Zealand in February, where he came second. Known for being strong on rolling courses, Skipper will expect to play a part in the dynamics of the bike portion of the race.
Other names to note include Georg Enzenberger (AUT), Stenn Goetsouwers (BEL), Lukas Stahl (DEU), and Finn Große-freese (DEU) and Simon Viain (FRA), all of whom will be looking for their golden ticket to Nice.
With only three male professional qualifying slots up for grabs, this is set up to be an exciting race.
IRONMAN les Sables d’Olonne Vendée (22 June, 2025)
The following weekend, a small but highly competitive field will take to the Vendée region of France to take part in the inaugural IRONMAN Les Sables d’Olonne Vendée triathlon.
Els Visser (NZL) will be joining the start line to secure her IRONMAN World Championship slot at IRONMAN Les Sables d’Olonne Vendée triathlon. Following a tough start to her season, Visser, who experienced a DNF at ISUZU IRONMAN South Africa African Championship and a DSQ at Qatar Airways IRONMAN Hamburg European Championship triathlon will no doubt be putting it all on the line to cross the finish line strong.
India Lee (GBR), fresh off a victory at IRONMAN 70.3 Tours Metropole – Loire Valley, makes up a strong British contingent which also includes Simone Mitchell and Ruth Astle.
IRONMAN 70.3 Westfriesland (22 June 2025)
On the same day, IRONMAN 70.3 Westfriesland triathlon will also be taking place. As the penultimate opportunity for male and female professional athletes to secure a spot to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in Marbella, this will likely be a hard-fought race.
In the women’s race, Dutch athlete Marlene De Boer (NLD), will be lining up for her home race with bib #1. At bib #2 Olympic medallist Jess Learmonth (GBR), will be joining the start line representing the UK.
She will have to work hard for it however, as compatriot de Boer comes off a strong 2024 season which saw her clock two victories an IRONMAN 70.3 Pozan and IRONMAN Kalmar Sweden triathlons.
Maja Stage Nielsen (DEN) will also continue her Marbella quest, after a 6th place finish at IRONMAN 70.3 Venice-Jesolo did not quite cut it, and Julie Iemmolo (FRA) will continue her season after placing 13th and 14th at IRONMAN 70.3 Aix-en-Provence and IRONMAN 70.3 Venice-Jesolo triathlons respectively.
In the men’s professional race, names to watch include Finn Große-Freese (DEU), who won the race as an age-grouper back in 2021, Mathias Lyngsø Petersen who came third at this year’s Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote triathlon, and Kurt McDonald (AUS) who will be making his European debut.
