A wild running event, born in the Midlands, is marking its 15th anniversary this year.

Created and organised by a local farming family, Wolf Run is led by brothers Charlie and Will Moreton, who remain at the heart of the business today. Since its inception, Wolf Run has grown significantly when 650 runners lined up at the start of the first event, to now welcoming up to 30,000 participants each year across its events.

Unlike traditional races, Wolf Run isn’t about being the fastest. Instead, runners take on mud, water and obstacles across wild countryside courses designed to challenge both body and mind while reconnecting people with the outdoors.

Two of Wolf Run’s events, Spring Wolf and Autumn Wolf, take place at Offchurch Bury near Leamington Spa, while Summer Wolf sees Stanford Hall in Leicestershire taken over by thousands of runners across a thrilling event weekend.

Charlie and Will grew up playing in these wild surroundings and believe maintaining that outdoor spirit of adventure into adult life is increasingly important in today’s sedentary and screen heavy world.

Alongside its main Wolf Run events, they also host Junior Wolf races for 7–17-year-olds, meaning the whole family can take part. There is even an option without obstacles, just you and the wild, in the dog friendly trail running event, Wolf Trails.

It’s not just a family event on the course; several members of the Moreton family have become part of the Wolf Run team over the years.

Founder Charlie Moreton said: “We have lots of family members involved. My cousin Tom does the website and graphics; my wife Katie does the marketing, and my father-in-law James is the financial director. We’ve also roped in our sister Harri, she’s on the mic at every weekend calling out the wave times and general information. We’ve got a DJ onsite, we try to make it a full day out so it’s not just the run, we have a big event village.

“Quite a few of our uncles and cousins get involved too whether it’s marshalling, driving, registration or running the bar. We’ve been very lucky, without friends and family it wouldn’t have taken off, we owe a few favours I think.”

The brothers both love and live the adventurous lifestyle at the heart of Wolf Run themselves, from rock climbing and banger races across Europe, to mountain biking down glaciers together in the Alps, and of course running wild together at their own events.

Will Moreton added: “We run together still. We always try and do the test run together. If things have gone well, one of us will try to sneak in the last wave with runners and marshals which is great fun. It’s a great way to get true feedback from runners, when you’re caked in mud together and you get to hear what bits they like.”

Both brothers plan to run in the last wave of the final event this year, Autumn Wolf, to celebrate 15 years of Wolf Run together.
