British Cycling is now accepting applications for new members of its BMX Racing and BMX Freestyle Park commissions, which provide expert help, support and advice to the Board and senior management, and play a fundamental role in shaping the long-term future of the sport.

The organisation is recruiting for a Chairperson of its BMX Racing Commission, while applications are being sought for the role of Chairperson and membership of the BMX Freestyle Park Commission. The new openings come as the organisation prepares to publish its long-term plan for BMX racing, while the BMX Freestyle Park Commission will play an integral role in the initial development of an equivalent plan for the discipline later this year.

British Cycling’s Cycling Delivery Director, Dani Every, said: “Being on one of our discipline commissions is an excellent way to demonstrate your passion for the sport and have a real impact on the way it is run, helping to shape our work both now and in the future.

“We want to welcome new members to provide us with a depth of knowledge and experience across each of the commissions, regardless of whether they are currently engaged with British Cycling activities and events. We hope that by attracting a range of voices we will be better equipped to meet the challenges we currently face and develop innovative ways to inspire new riders, coaches, volunteers and event organisers to get involved in the sport in the years ahead.”

Commissions typically meet twice a year, with more regular virtual catch-ups also taking place as we work through the current challenges presented by Covid-19. Members will occasionally be expected to contribute to debates and recommendations by e-mail. The deadline for applications is 23:59 on Wednesday 17 February 2021.
