The British National Track Championships will make its long-awaited return to the home of British cycling in 2024, with Manchester’s National Cycling Centre hosting the event from Friday 23 – Sunday 25 February 2024.
The return to the National Cycling Centre will see the best of British riders go head-to-head once again for a chance to take home the coveted red, white, and blue national champions’ jerseys, with Olympians, Paralympians and world champions all set to take to the start line in front of packed home crowds. Following extensive refurbishment works over the past two years, the National Cycling Centre has seen spectator facilities improved with additional seating added, a new timing system and new hospitality suites to enhance the spectator experience. In total, £26 million has been spent on the project, which also includes improvements to the facility’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, supported by Manchester City Council.
The 2024 edition will begin with a closed qualifying session on Thursday 22 February, with new information on qualifying standards for riders here.
The 2023 four-time sprint national champion, Emma Finucane, said: “It was amazing to win all four national titles last year at my home track in Newport and I’m really excited for the chance to defend them in Manchester next year. Training with the rest of the Great Britain Cycling Team at the National Cycling Centre is a privilege and we all know this track so well, so it really is a second home for us. For the National Track Championships to return here will be amazing, especially with the new refurbishments in place.”
Councillor John Hacking, Executive Member for Skills, Employment and Leisure, Manchester City Council said: “We can’t wait to welcome back the British National Track Championships to the National Cycling Centre here in Manchester, a venue dubbed the ‘medal factory’ that has played a hugely important role in boosting countless podium places over the decades.
“These championships will be the inaugural event following a recent major refurbishment project, which has seen a multi-million pound investment from the City Council across all areas of the velodrome, bringing a modern, more efficient, and sustainable velodrome arena that will support local pathways to cycling at all levels of participation from schools and the local community to elite cycling programmes and major events.”
