Whether you watched from your sofa, took to the streets in support, or ran the iconic 13.1 mile course on Sunday, if you’ve been inspired and want to secure a place in AJ Bell Great North Run in 2026, you still have time!
There’s just two days left to enter the ballot for a chance to be on the starting line at the world’s biggest half marathon next year, taking place on Sunday 13 September 2026.
The ballot will be drawn on Monday 15 September, when applicants will be notified of their results. A second ballot will be held in January 2026, with the final places confirmed then.
Paul Foster, Chief Executive of the Great Run Company said: “We’ve already had an unbelievable response to the ballot with more people than ever before entering, keen to secure a place on the 2026 start line. That shouldn’t deter those who want to take on our iconic event from signing up themselves – it’s a ballot which means everyone has a chance of securing a much coveted place. Whether you’re a new runner looking to take on your first half marathon, or A seasoned Great North runner hoping to return, the Great North Run continues to be a MUST do event – this is your chance to be there.”
With the event’s profile and popularity continuing to grow, this year’s ballot is set to be the biggest ever. Those successful in the ballot can expect to rub shoulders with famous faces as they run the course from Newcastle to South Shields, cheered on by a rapturous crowd which always shows up in force. The event also features some of the world’s leading athletes competing at the front in the elite Men’s, Women’s and Wheelchair races.
The 44th edition of the Great North Run which took place last Sunday, captured the imagination of many with over 200,000 spectators lining the streets in support, and millions watching live on the BBC. At what was heralded the biggest Great North Run yet, over £25 million is expected to be raised for charity from the 2025 event.
