Joma will have a strong presence at the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships, with more than 20 athletes from across the world set to compete in the Spanish brand’s footwear and 15 national federations wearing Joma kit.
The championships take place from 10–16 August, with Birmingham providing a major home-stage showcase for British athletes as well as some of Europe’s best runners and race walkers.
Joma is the official technical sponsor of European Athletics and will have athletes competing across road, race walking and track events during the championships.
Strong race walking presence
Race walking makes up the largest part of Joma’s athlete line-up in Birmingham, with more than a dozen athletes competing in the brand’s R-5000 carbon-plated shoe.
British interest will include Paul McGrath, who will contest the half marathon race walk, alongside fellow Spanish, French, Italian, Hungarian and German athletes.
The R-5000 has been developed for fast road racing, combining a carbon plate with Joma’s Fly Reactive technology to provide a responsive ride over longer efforts.
Two Joma athletes in the marathon
The marathon on Sunday 16 August will feature Portugal’s Carlos Costa and Italy’s Alessia Tuccitto, both racing in Joma’s RS-9000.
At 126g, the RS-9000 is designed around extreme weight reduction, with Light Reactive technology and an internal carbon plate intended to maximise energy return at fast race paces.
The Birmingham marathon will provide another opportunity to put Joma’s latest road-racing technology to the test at championship level.
British sprinters and hurdles representation
Joma will also have a presence on the track at Alexander Stadium.
British sprinter Aleeya Sibbons will compete as part of Great Britain’s 4x100m squad, wearing Joma’s R-1100 sprint spikes.
The carbon-plated spike has been developed around the three key phases of the 100m – the start, the bend and the final acceleration.
Meanwhile, British 400m hurdler Josh Faulds will compete in Joma’s R-100 development model, which is still being refined through competition.
Belgian 110m hurdler Michael Obasuyi will unfortunately miss the championships through injury. Obasuyi had been among the medal contenders after running the fastest European time of the year and twice breaking the Belgian national record, eventually lowering it to 13.10.
Joma kits across 15 nations
Away from the individual athletes, Joma will also be highly visible around Birmingham through its partnerships with 15 national federations.
Albania, Azerbaijan, Georgia, North Macedonia, Andorra, Spain, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Moldova and Armenia will all compete in Joma’s official team kit.
With elite athletes, national teams and technical footwear all represented, Birmingham 2026 provides Joma with a significant platform to showcase its growing involvement in European athletics.
For UK fans, the brand’s presence will be particularly visible through the likes of Sibbons, Faulds and McGrath as they take on some of Europe’s best at a home championship.
