The Oxford Half weekend is a staple in the city’s calendar, and its popularity is enjoying an annual increase. The 2026 event has seen an increased capacity 15,000 runners sign-up to take part, with thousands lining the streets to share their support.

Following three consecutive record sell-outs, 2026’s race grabbed another PB of its own, selling out general entries in less than three weeks. This achievement places the Oxford Half ahead of wider industry averages, even with the sector witnessing continued growth.

According to the latest Mass Participation Pulse report, events are, on average, selling out ten days earlier than they did in 2024 and almost a month earlier than 2023. The last three years have seen the Oxford Half sell out at a faster pace each year. 2026’s half marathon hit the milestone three weeks after going on sale, almost three months faster than in 2025 – despite a capacity increase of 2,000.

With the success of the Oxford Half reflected by its growth over the years, also aligning with, and often outperforming, the industry trends, there are several reasons behind this. Generally, half marathons are proving the most popular distance for runners, with the 13.1-mile distance continuing to be the most attended. Organisers of the Oxford Half, Motiv Sports UK, also run the Hackney Half Marathon, witnessing the same trend of increasing sell-outs, having sold out in an astonishing two days for 2026’s race.

The Mass Participation Pulse report, released at the start of 2026, found that two of the most important things for runners are atmosphere and logistics, two elements that are central to Motiv Sports UK’s successful event delivery.

Last year’s Oxford Half route was adjusted to enhance experience and logistics for runners, with the start and finish line being moved to the same place, onto a wider road, allowing for more supporters and generating the perfect atmosphere as runners complete the 13.1 miles. The route itself remains extremely popular due to its flat and fast nature, an ideal combo for personal best chasers and newcomers taking on their first race.

Finish-line celebrations carry on into the event village based in the famous University Parks. Tens of thousands enjoy live entertainment, food and drink vendors, merchandise and essential race facilities, creating the perfect place for people to revel in one of Oxford’s most iconic weekends, in the heart of the historic city.

The combination of strong event delivery with Oxford’s iconic character, historic architecture and incredible local charities, has propelled the Oxford Half to become not only a marquee moment in the city, but a must-run event in the UK running calendar.

There is only one remaining way to run the Oxford Half 2026 and that is running for one of the event’s charity partners.

Outside of Oxford, Motiv Sports UK host several events in London and, in line with this growing demand, have just added another half marathon to the capital’s calendar. Motiv launched Saucony Run Shoreditch in 2025 as a 10k race and recently announced the event is returning as a half marathon in September. Their other events include Hackney Moves and the Saucony London 10k.
