This December, UltraBritain and XNRG are launching a powerful festive challenge in support of Humanity Direct — and we’re helping spread the word so the running community can get behind it.

From 1st to 24th December, the UltraBritain and XNRG teams will be virtually travelling 9,082km (5,643.9 miles) — the distance from XNRG HQ in Amersham to Platinum Hospital in Uganda. Their route takes them through France, across the Trans-Sahara Highway, and down into Uganda, all with one purpose: raising funds for vital medical equipment for children in urgent need.

The need behind the challenge

Humanity Direct has shared an appeal from Dr. Kamulegeya at Platinum Hospital. Two young patients are currently waiting for surgery, but the hospital does not have the essential tools required to perform the operations safely.

They urgently need:

  • Two bronchoscopes
  • One video laryngoscope

Without this equipment, complex maxillofacial surgeries become far more risky. In similar cases, Dr. Kamulegeya has had to perform invasive tracheotomies in addition to the main operation purely because the correct equipment wasn’t available. This adds unnecessary risk, complications, and extended recovery for young patients.

By raising funds to purchase these tools, the challenge aims to ensure these operations — and many more in the future — can go ahead safely.

Whether you choose to run, walk, donate, or simply help spread the message, every bit of support brings Humanity Direct closer to their goal.
